I am running for the IPS school board to leverage my extensive background in education as a resource for our district. As an IPS alum & parent, I understand the value of community support. My journey began as a community partner and educator in various schools, where I focused on helping students succeed academically. I believe every student deserves a support system. My goal is to strengthen family and community partnerships to enhance the educational experiences of all learners,
I deeply understand the specific challenges our teachers face. Recruiting and retaining talent requires a board who actively listens to educators. I aim to foster a district culture where teachers feel valued, respected, and heard by their community. Additionally, educators need to be equipped to excel in their roles, supported by strong leadership, and engaged with parents and community members. Together, we can create an environment that empowers our teachers and enhances student success.
To ensure student safety and well-being, we must create schools as resource hubs where families, teachers, and community members collaborate. This involves implementing comprehensive support systems, such as health services & conflict resolution programs. By fostering a culture of open communication & respect, we can empower students & staff to address safety concerns proactively. Additionally, personalized strategic planning ensures that every student feels valued & secure.
To balance budget constraints with educational improvements, I will prioritize funding that directly enhances student learning and outcomes for all learners. This includes investing in special education, mental health services, and community partnerships that provide additional resources. By fostering quality relationships with stakeholders, we can leverage community support to maximize our budget. Transparency in the budgeting process will ensure that every dollar aligns with IPS goals.
Charter schools are an integral part of the IPS ecosystem, providing valuable choices for families. My focus is on ensuring that all IPS school options, serve as quality options for every student in our district. I support policies that foster collaboration and transparency between these schools, ensuring they share resources and best practices but must be in the be in the best interest of the mission of IPS. I believe in an educational environment where every IPS student thrives.
My connection to Riverside School 44 (now Global Preparatory Academy) spans a lifetime. I attended as a student, volunteered as a basketball coach, and began my professional educational journey there. I served on the community council and piloted an after-school strategy to support academic and family needs. My experience at this innovation school has been deeply personal and professional, rooted in a commitment to ensuring every student has the quality support and resources they need to thrive, as I experienced in that same school, that sits across the street from my home.
