Township TrusteePursuant to IC 36-6-4-2(a), the trustee is the township executive. Many Township Trustees work at other jobs in addition to serving their constituents.Qualifications: · Must reside within the township.Term: Four years.Duties: Township Trustees can assist those in need by distributing relief and connecting residents to helpful resources when necessary. The Trustee is responsible for submitting an annual budget, paying and recording all financial guidelines according to Indiana Code, and presenting an annual report. Compensation shall be established using an annual, monthly, or biweekly salary schedule. I have both a bachelor's degree in business and a law degree. I have had the privilege to serve in local government for many years. I first served as a City-County Councilor for 12 years, where I learned firsthand about how government functions and the importance of constituent services. I used my education and experience to serve as the Washington Township Trustee for 20 years where I have a led a great team who serve people in need in our Township.
Continuing inflation and limitations or even outright elimination of State and National programs have placed an increasing number of Township residents in great need of services. With limitations on taxation, I have had to navigate the impact of those changes to utilize the limited resources available to the Trustee's office to serve a growing number of residents in the need. My goal is to continue several existing programs and create new ones through collaborations.
I will continue to prioritize basic needs: food, shelter, clothing and taking care of our youngest residents.
Our philosophy is to do directly what we do best and to collaborate with others to provide services best delivered by them to multiply our dollars.
We partner with food banks, such as Gleaners, to provide wholesome food, using their buying power to amplify our resources.
We partner with the Assistance League of Indianapolis. This past year, with our help, they provided 386 duffel bags of clothing and 316 pairs of athletic shoes to school children in our Township.
Our Welcome Baby program serves qualifying mothers in need with everything they need for their baby from birth to 6 months, including clothes, food and diapers.
Despite many challenges, we will always find a way to meet the basic human needs of Township residents who qualify for assistance.
As noted, as many other channels of assistance close, more residents need assistance. We will continue to work with our current non-profit partners and seek new collaborations with other non-profits and philanthropies to multiply the dollars we have available. Together we will meet the challenges.
I will continue to lead our excellent team to reach out to find new community partners to help us serve our residents. I will continue to use my significant relationships in State and local government and in the business and civic community to make them aware of the needs of our Township and encourage them to bring their resources to bear to enhance our ability to serve our constituents.
