Biographical Information

1. Provide biographical information, and explain why you are running for Library Board and relevant qualities and skills you would bring to the position.

2. What are the top three (3) priority issues facing your library, and what actions would you, as a board member, take regarding each of them?

I am running for the Library Board because my local library was a key part of my childhood. My family participated in the summer reading program, rented videos, and received free admission to museums through programs like the Michigan Activity Pass and Museums for All.

As an adult, I have over 7 years of experience in the nonprofit sector including grants administration and grant writing. I would like to use my professional experience to support our local library as a Library Board Member.
1.) Limited funding - Our library's funding constraints limit their ability to materialize new programming and make capital improvements. I plan to assist in fundraising and sponsorship efforts.

2.) Community outreach - Many community members are not aware of the wide range of programs and services offered at the Hazel Park library. I plan to help connect residents to all that our library has to offer.

3.) Youth services - Our library is a community hub for local youth. Many students spend time at the library after school and during the summer. The library offers a safe space for vulnerable youth to connect with each other and trusted adult staff members. I plan to focus fundraising efforts on the library's youth programming so they may provide expanded support to young people in our community.
