I have served on the board for ten years and wish to continue working for our students, staff and community. I believe that strong schools equal strong communities. I am a good listener who appreciates feedback from all stakeholders. As we continue to make decisions for our district, we need to keep in mind what is in the best interest of the people we serve. I believe that I have the experience and passion to continue contributing. I have been a district resident for 34 years. I've been married to Jay for 35 years and mother to a Huron Valley graduate. I work in the community as a dental hygienist and have been a member of Commerce UM Church for 30 years. I am currently the board secretary and have served as V.P. and Treasurer. I chair the Teaching, Learning & Technology committee. I am Co-chair of the Huron Valley Educational Foundation and President of the Huron Valley Community Coalition. I am actively present and involved in the success of our community and school district.
Safety & Security : If we don't have these, then everything else we do will not matter. The improvements we have made investing in cameras, technology, securing buildings, staffing and support, as well as expanded mental health services have all been worthwhile investments.
Curriculum & Collaboration : We have engaged our educators and staff and focused on consistency and reliable information when making decisions or changes. We have held forums and shared updates with our parents and community.
Financial Stability : We have responsible oversight of our taxpayer dollars. We have completed major capital projects without increasing the millage rate. We have invested in athletic facilities and art resources for our students. By regularly reviewing our financial priorities and working within our budget, we have created opportunities for our students. We need to continue with our transparency and keep creating platforms for our students, staff and community to engage in with the board.
After ten years of serving on the school board the most important decision that I make is always "what is best for our students" I am asking for continued support because I believe in our community, I believe in our students and staff and I believe that they deserve leaders who continue to listen ,learn and put our students first. I have demonstrated that over the last ten years. I believe that quality schools equal a quality community .
I have been a resident of HVS for 43 years Married to my wife Gail for 52 years. We have three children that graduated from HVS and presently have four grandchildren who attend schools within HVS . I have a Bachelor Degree from Western Michigan a Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Oakland University and a Maters Degree in Accounting from Walsh College. I am also a CPA liscenced in the State of Michigan . I previously was a teacher, counselor and Assistant Superintendent of Schools during my 43 year career. I have relevant experience.
Safety and Security: continued investment with expanded security measures such as cameras, safe and secure entries , countinued professional development in safety protocols of staff . making certain that the mental health of our students also is addressed.
Responsible Governance: continuing with careful oversight of district resources to ensure investments are responsible, transparent and focused on student needs
Intentional and strategic planning for the future :continuing our five year strategic plan that was adopted by the Board of Education and the development and adoption of an additional strategic plan once the current plan expires in 2028.Focusing on student needs.
Continued growth and increase opportunities for our students:
HVS believes in providing quality opportunities for all as we build for the future one student at a time. I believe that as a member of the board we need to work directly with staff and parents to provide state of the art , relevant curriculum.
