I grew up in Hazel Park and I am an alumni of Hazel Park Schools. My four children graduated from HP. I was a PTA Volunteer for a very long time and was employed by the School District for 25 years. I taught Head Start preschool and I was a Community School Representative. I received the Hazel Park Schools Humanitarian Award and several Distinguished Service Awards.
My skills would be serving 12 years on the school board, Level 5 Diamond Award from the Michigan Association of School Boards, 36 certification classes and 701 hours of additional education hours. I’m running because I am passionate about education, kids and my community.
1. Students are my first priority. Classroom needs, career preparation, safety , technology etc. are all part of student success. To achieve the above and more I would come prepared to meetings and vote with Students in Mind.
2. Finance continue to provide oversight of taxpayers dollars. I will continue to ask questions to ensure we can hire and retain qualified staff, pay all of the bills and see that funds are allocated to the success of our students and community. Hazel Park should be a school district parents choose for their child.
3. Infrastructure. We need, as a community, to update and maintain our buildings. Most were built in the late 50,s and 60’s. I would advocate using our recent new building assessment as a guide as where to begin.

I moved to Hazel Park in 1999, and all five of my children attended and graduated from Hazel Park High School.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s in leadership. I’ve spent 35 years in education—as a teacher, reading coach, and substitute teacher, including 25 years serving Hazel Park students. I’ve also served four years on the Board of Education.
While I did not attend Hazel Park schools myself, I have dedicated much of my life to this community and its students. I’ve experienced Hazel Park as a parent, teacher, coach, and leader, giving me a unique perspective that I bring to the board.
I’ve completed 93 credit hours of Michigan school board training and traveled to Washington, D.C., to advocate for public education.
I’m running for re-election, because I’m not finished. I want to continue working on enrollment, improving student attendance and behavior, rebuilding our sense of community, and advocating for every student in Hazel Park.
1. Test scores
We need to identify learning gaps early, provide targeted reading and math interventions, and give teachers the resources and support they need. We must use data to measure progress, set clear goals, and hold ourselves accountable for results.
2. Attendance
We need to understand the reasons behind chronic absenteeism and work with families to remove barriers to getting students to school consistently. Building strong relationships with students and creating a school environment where students feel safe, supported, and connected will also make a difference.
3. Student behavior and school climate.
Students and teachers deserve schools that are safe, respectful, and focused on learning. We need clear and consistent expectations, appropriate consequences, early intervention, and the resources necessary to support students who are struggling with behavior. Teachers should be able to teach without constantly dealing with disruptions.
As a parent of three young children who will attend Hazel Park Schools, this is personal for me. I want to help ensure that our students have the resources, support, and opportunities they need to succeed, while also making sure taxpayer dollars are being used responsibly.
I have spent the past eight years building a career in project management, including three years working for the federal government. In that role, I was responsible for managing project scope, schedules, and budgets, while working with a team toward common goals.
I believe those skills would translate well to the School Board. Board members have a responsibility to look at the big picture, ask difficult questions, listen to the community, and make informed decisions that put students first. I would bring a practical, collaborative approach to the position and work to build consensus rather than division.
The three priority issues I believe the school district is currently facing are fiscal irresponsibility, neglected infrastructure, and academic proficiency.
I would address fiscal irresponsibility by ensuring that district finances are managed responsibly and that taxpayer dollars are being used where they have the greatest impact on students.
The primary purpose of school funding should be to provide students with a safe, effective environment in which they can learn and succeed. I would support prioritizing funding for classrooms, teachers, student programs, educational resources, and necessary building improvements.
I do not believe there is one simple solution to improving academic achievement. It requires strong teachers, effective curriculum, engaged families, appropriate resources, and accountability throughout the district. My goal would be to support policies that bring those pieces together and keep the focus on student success.
I’m running for reelection because I believe every child deserves to feel seen, supported, and like they belong. I know what it feels like to wonder if you’re enough, and that has shaped the way I see and advocate for our students. Serving on our school board has become more than a position to me; it’s a purpose. My commitment to our students also extends beyond the boardroom. I work hard for the Hazel Park Promise Zone, a nonprofit providing our students with a tuition-free pathway to post-secondary success. Creating opportunities for our kids isn’t just something I talk about; it’s something I work for. I’m not perfect, and I don’t have all the answers, but I care deeply. I'll keep showing up, listening, speaking up, and fighting for what our students deserve. I’m asking for four more years, not for the title, but for the opportunity to keep putting students first, building a stronger district, and making sure every child knows they matter and that someone is in their corner.
The three priorities facing our district are transparency, accountability, and trust. Without these, how can we truly do what is best for our students? Our community deserves honesty about the decisions being made and why they are being made. We have to stop allowing drama and decisions that take resources, opportunities, or focus away from our kids. Our energy should be spent building this district up, not tearing it down. Transparency builds trust, and accountability means being willing to look at our decisions and ask, “Are we making things better for our students?”
I promise to keep asking those questions, keep speaking up, and keep pushing for positive change. I won’t stop fighting for a district our students deserve.
