1. Please provide biographical information and explain why you are running for School Board and relevant qualities and skills you would bring to the position that you are running for.
What are the top three (3) priority issues facing your school district, and what actions would you take to address them if elected to the school board?
I am a family law attorney turned stay at home mom of 6. I went to law school to become an advocate for children. While my life took a different path, I became involved in PTA and started advocating for children in a different way. Through becoming an active and trusted member of my childrens' school community, I discovered that although unintentional, some policies and practices were adversely affecting students. I decided to take my knowledge and advocacy skills and bring them to our board of education to ensure ALL children had an advocate when policies were being evaluated and voted into action.
The most prominent issue our school district is facing is budget and use of funds. If elected, I will be diligent in reviewing the budget. I will ask for complicated evaluations to be broken down so they are more easily understood and leaves no room for misunderstanding to arise about spending.
A new emergent issue to our district is about technology. One being an appropriate use policy and the other being how much should our district be investing and supporting technology. If elected, I would like to do more in depth evaluations on all technology issues and hopefully pass well balanced and cost effective policies around technology.
A third issue, affecting many districts, is enrollment rate. Our district is not unique in this issue. Currently, our district is trying to invest more into early childhood education in hopes to capture families at the preliminary stages of education. I would like to continue this work.
