I was born and raised in the West Bloomfield Keego Harbor area and graduated from West Bloomfield High School in 2005. I have lived in Keego Harbor for over 15 years and currently own a home right in the heart of the city. I Joined the Michigan State Police in 2016, where I was eventually promoted to a Detective Trooper working undercover on a narcotics team. In 2025, I retired to pursue growing and expanding my transportation business located in Keego Harbor, The Whiskey Wagon. We provided safe, unique and professional transportation for any and all events. I also started a non-profit side of the business called “The Wagon Warriors”, where we offer rides for mobility limited clients via our wheelchair lift on the bus, free of charge. I am running for city council because I love serving my community and the people who live in it. I believe my background in government work and being a local business owner makes me a great candidate for this position.
I want residents to feel seen and heard by a city council that is as accessible and transparent as humanly possible. Local government should always have one main goal in mind, which is to put its residents and their concerns first and foremost before anything else. Secondly, as a Keego Harbor business owner, I understand the impact a city council and its legislation can have on local businesses. Thriving businesses are the lifeblood of any small town, and they need to be supported and encouraged by a competent city council. I want to make Keego Harbor an attractive place for business owners to setup shop. Lastly, I want to help reshape and rebrand the image of Keego Harbor, while keeping the small-town charm and feeling intact. I believe we have an opportunity to create a powerful marketing campaign for potential homebuyers and businesses that give a fresh, attractive portrayal of our city. We have multiple vacant properties with the potential to generate a large amount of revenue.
Born in Detroit and lived in Oakland County my whole life. I offer my business and legal acumen, to first hearing the residents concerns, sharing to City Hall and reporting back facts as they are available. Experience highlights include, but not limited to: Corporate Accounting, ISO/QS9000 documentation, Process Development/Continuous Improvement, Just-In-Time Culture and Civil Mediation. My education includes: BBA - Business/Finance, MSM - Management, Certificate in Paralegal & and currently working on a Masters in Legal Studies.
Overall, we must restore faith and civil dialog in our community by addressing and communicating the issues at hand.
First, the old issues. Reporting factual documented events on the Roosevelt School so we can put this to rest. The animosity has created a hostile environment and we need to heal. A legacy commitment would go a long way.
Second, the current issues. What can we do right now? Can the TIFA grant be used for the water drainage along Orchard Lake and Cass Lake Roads? This would improve development for business environment. Blight, Code Enforcement and Safety are within our reach.
Third, there is talk about opening 'Shops' in this corridor, yet what kind of 'Shops'? Realistically, do we need another salon, pizza, or think medical or legal? Then comes architecture - I support a 'Community' look opposed to a 'Chrome and Steel'. Retain our culture and history without going full retro. What is happening to the Roosevelt property? I support a type of owner occupied townhouses.
My parents moved us to Keego Harbor soon after I was born in 1968. No matter where I have traveled in the world, Keego Harbor has always felt like HOME to me. My parents (Donald and Sharyl Lubbers) left me with a long legacy of service and leadership. I believe leadership should be powered by positivity, not by ignoring the challenges before us, but by meeting them with energy, honesty, and confidence in what we can accomplish together. The potential of our small lakeside community inspires me and I'm optimistic about Keego Harbor. Professionally, I'm a senior commercial leader with a demonstrated record of driving revenue growth, leading customer-facing teams, and building strategic relationships across the pharmaceutical and auto industries. For Keego Harbor I've served on the Zoning Board of Appeals, as Vice Chairperson of the Planning Commission, and this Spring I was appointed to the City Council. I'm currently serving as the liaison to the Tax Increment Finance Authority.
1. Responsible Growth & Development: Welcome investment with a focused business attraction and retention strategy while preserving Keego Harbor’s small-town character and natural resources. Streamline development reviews and comprehensively update our zoning ordinance so we encourage the right development rather than stand in its way.
2. Planning, Infrastructure & Community Standards: Turn our recently adopted Master Plan into action through a six-year Capital Improvements Plan aligned with the Cass Lake Road corridor vision. Address blight by increasing code-enforcement capacity, establishing a vacant-property registry, improving owner communication, and strengthening penalties for repeat violations.
3. Communication & Transparency: Build a more responsive, transparent City Hall. With experienced city management and modern technology, improve our website, social media and resident communications so citizens know what is happening, why decisions are being made, and how to engage.
