I am a graduate of Michigan State University, College of Lyman Briggs (B.S.) and University of Detroit Mercy School of Law (J.D., cum laude). I was elected as a District Judge of the 52-2 District Court in 2008. I am married with four beautiful children and am a lifelong resident of Clarkston. I have been active with Clarkston schools and youth enrichment programs, including Teen Court, Elementary School Mock Trial Program, Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts and Clarkston Scamp.
Prior to my public service in the judiciary, I was a lawyer in a general practice law firm, handling cases and legal issues of all shapes and sizes. I am a licensed attorney with the State Bar of Michigan and with various federal courts, including the United States Supreme Court. I have served as a District Court Judge
for almost 18 years and successfully manage a high volume of both civil and criminal cases. I preside over a drug and alcohol treatment court, focusing on reform and rehabilitation for defendants with substance abuse disorders in appropriate cases.
For six years, I was appointed by the Michigan Supreme Court as the Chief Judge for all four divisions of the 52nd District Court. I helped establish a district-wide mental health treatment court. I also helped implement significant and lasting changes in court operations to improve efficiency and access to justice. This included implementing an e-filing system, offering virtual hearing options for certain types of cases, and offering text and email reminders to court users for upcoming court dates and probation appointments. Due process requires that everyone be treated respectfully and be given a fair opportunity to present their cases. Above all, I regard judicial temperament to be the most important and defining characteristic for a judge.
