I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science/Pre-Law from Michigan State University and a Juris Doctor from Cooley Law School. I was appointed Judge of the 50th District Court in Pontiac in 2022 and have served since January 2023. Previously, I served as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney with the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office and practiced criminal defense and civil litigation in private practice. I serve on the boards of the Pontiac Community Foundation, Pontiac Robotics, and E-Community Outreach Services, and as a mentor on FIRST Robotics Team 51. I am an active member of numerous legal and civic organizations, including the Association of Black Judges of
Michigan, the Oakland County Bar Association, the Wolverine Bar Association, and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated.
My legal career has included public service, private practice, and judicial service throughout southeastern Michigan. As an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Wayne County, I prosecuted felony and misdemeanor cases, including domestic violence and special victims matters, and reviewed thousands of warrant requests. In private practice, I represented criminal defendants in state and federal courts and insurance carriers in civil litigation involving personal injury, negligence, premises liability, and subrogation. Since becoming a district court judge, I have presided over criminal, civil, landlord-tenant, and small claims matters while issuing search warrants, conducting arraignments, and resolving a broad range of legal disputes fairly and impartially.
I have dedicated my career to serving the public with integrity, fairness, and respect for the rule of law. My experience as a prosecutor, private practice attorney, and district court judge has provided a well-rounded understanding of our justice system from multiple perspectives. I approach every case with preparation, impartiality, and respect for every individual who appears before the court. Beyond the courtroom, I actively engage with the community through mentoring, youth outreach, and civic organizations to strengthen public trust in the judiciary. I remain committed to ensuring that every person receives equal justice, is treated with dignity, and has meaningful access to a fair and efficient court system.
I am one of three judges at the 50th District Court in Pontiac, where I have served since 2003. Between January 2010 and December 2025, I was appointed by the Michigan Supreme Court to serve as chief judge. Our court handles civil claims for damages up to $25,000 including small claims and landlord tenant disputes. We also handle misdemeanor criminal cases, traffic and municipal violations and preliminary exams on felony cases. My undergraduate degree in criminal justice and sociology is from Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin where I currently serve on the board of trustees, and my law degree is from Valparaiso University Law School in Indiana. I am a member of numerous judicial and law-related organizations and associations.
Prior to becoming a judge, I worked as the court administrator for 50th District Court, as the city attorney for Pontiac, and as a staff attorney for the UAW Legal Plans in Saginaw, Sterling Heights and Pontiac. Immediately prior to that, I was a staff attorney with Legal Service of Eastern Michigan, providing legal service to seniors (regardless of income) in a 10-county area as funded by the Region 7 Area Agency on Aging.
Committed to equity in the legal profession, I have participated in pipeline programs to develop student interest in the law and enjoy speaking at schools and churches on topics such as truancy, consequences of impulsive behaviors and decision-making.
I believe in treating every person who comes before me with dignity and respect, making sure that they are heard and hoping that they leave my courtroom feeling that they were treated fairly, regardless of the outcome. Those who have appeared in my courtroom can confirm that I am patient, composed and impartial. I am an active member of the Pontiac community and will always be grateful to the voters who have allowed me to serve in this role for the past 23 years.
