At the heart of being a city council member is showing up for your community. It means listening to your neighbors, understanding what they are experiencing, and making sure their voices are heard at the table. Council members help make local laws and decisions, review and approve the city budget, and make sure public money is being used responsibly. It also means asking questions, expecting transparency, and holding city government accountable. Council members help shape the future of the city by making decisions around housing, infrastructure, parks, public services, growth, and development. A big part of the job is working with other council members, city staff, local organizations, businesses, and residents to find solutions.
I bring a combination of community organizing, nonprofit leadership, creativity, and real-world experience to this position. As the founder and executive director of Queer Craft Corner, I have learned how to bring people together, build partnerships, manage a budget, work with a board, organize events, and turn ideas into something that serves the community. My work has also taught me how important it is to listen, communicate, ask questions, and make sure people feel seen and included. Working in the service industry has given me a different perspective too. I understand what it means to work hard, balance responsibilities, and make a living in our community. I know I still have more to learn, and I’m not afraid to ask questions.
The first thing I want to bring to city council is an inclusive and welcoming environment. At the moment, there is very little representation of the communities I come from. I want to bring my own history of being part of marginalized communities with me to the table. I want everyone in Springdale to feel seen and heard, and I believe one of the most important ways I can do that is simply by being myself, showing up, listening, and making space for others.
