Maine is unaffordable for families, youth, elderly, all of us--property taxes, housing, utilities, groceries, health insurance, etc. The state spending budget increased from $7B to 12B in the last 8 years under Democrat leadership and majority in Maine. We need to identify, remove and recoup fraud and abuse of Medicaid funds so we can roll back unnecessary taxes.
Education in Maine has declined significantly in the last 8 years. I feel we should remove technology and ideology from classrooms, remove unfunded mandates on teachers, and focus on academics.
We have a significant and increasing unhoused population, exacerbated by a lack of mental health services and substance use.
There is too much toxic division and not enough communication.
Mainers are resilient, but we are hanging on by a thread. We need a transparent government that lives within its means; stronger schools that respect parents' rights; real solutions for mental health, homelessness and substance use; and policies that make it easier for families to afford to live, work, build homes, start businesses and eventually, retire here.
Specific to smaller towns in D15, water quality, treatment and protection of this district's lakes, watersheds, dams + rural character is paramount; not just for property values and recreation, but also drinking water, tourism, local business, etc.
Augusta is at the epicenter of state employment. We need to treat-and pay-our state employees better. Maine doesn't work unless THEY work!
I am the most qualified candidate in the Senate D15 race. I have education in accounting, finance + human resources; experience in health benefits, human resources, negotiations, budgets, being a good steward of taxpayer funds-weighing and making decisions on behalf of constituents who elected me to the Augusta School Board where I served 9 years. I have worked in supporting roles in both the private sector (accounting + dental), public sector (DHHS-OADS Office of Aging and Disability Services + CPS) as well as quasi-governmental. I've lived in Maine 44 of 45 years; raised a large family here + was recently promoted to grandmother. I grew up in rural Maine (Unity), understand small town dynamics + moved to Augusta @15 yrs ago. I love Maine.
