Ballot Language: Should the boundaries of the Collier Mosquito Control District be expanded to include The City of Everglades City and allow the District to levy and collect ad valorem taxes and administer mosquito control service within the District’s expanded boundaries?_____Yes_____No Synopsis: Collier’s State legislators requested that those voters who reside in urban areas in the proposed Collier Mosquito Control District (CMCD) expansion area vote on the measure. The CMCD’s mission is to protect public health and comfort by controlling mosquito populations to protect residents vulnerable to mosquito-borne disease. During 2025, the City of Everglades provided Emergency Authorization to have the CMCD treat areas with the City (outside of current District boundaries) to help provide Everglades City’s citizens relief from the worst salt marsh mosquito season in a decade.Environmental groups are concerned that pesticides used for mosquito control can interrupt the food web by eliminating insects which serve not only as food, but also as pollinators.Supporters: City of Everglades City Council Opponents: No elected officialsA Yes Vote Would:Authorize mosquito control services for health and comfort for properties within the expansion area including the City of Everglades, and also add a new ad valorem tax on property tax bills in the expansion area, at the rate of .1349 mils on assessed value. The exceptions to the ad valorem taxation (per the Florida Department of Revenue) include bona fide agricultural lands, religious properties, public hospitals, most educational properties, conservation areas, and assisted living facilities. A No Vote Would:Retain the current boundaries of the Collier Mosquito Control District and continue to levy ad valorem tax for Mosquito Control only on the existing properties within the current district
