Many years as a Mental Health Counselor and Substance Abuse Counselor showed me how Vermont Government doesn't work for many of the people in the state and what changes are needed to make the state livable for all of our people.
Lack of access to housing, health care, food, transportation, and jobs that pay a livable wage threaten people's ability to get by. We are unprepared for the predictable effects of climate change and need to expand local food production and distribution. We need to fully implement Vermont's Universal Healthcare Law, invest in housing infrastructure that will support home ownership, change laws to encourage home sharing and assure that we can all be housed, and invest in building networks of strong, effective communities. We must require a livable wage. We can reorganize employment and human service systems to become community centers that leverage the resources, knowledge, and skills of all the people to meet all of our needs.
