DeWitt Township Police and Fire Millage Proposal
POLICE AND FIRE MILLAGE PROPOSALThis proposal will allow the Charter Township of DeWitt to continue to levy millage for Police and Fire Department purposes, renews millage that expired with the 2025 tax levy, and, in part, restores millage lost as a result of the reduction required by the Michigan Constitution of 1963.Shall the previously voted increase in the authorized charter millage for the Charter Township of DeWitt, Clinton County, Michigan, which may be assessed against all property as defined by law within the Township be renewed at 1.2239 mills ($1.2239 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation), and also be increased by .25 mill ($0.25 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation), for a period of 4 years, 2026 through 2029, inclusive, for the purpose of defraying, in whole or in part, the cost of operating the DeWitt Charter Township Fire Department and for the acquisition, repair, replacement, maintenance and housing of the equipment and apparatus of the department; the estimate of the revenue the Township will collect if the millage is approved and levied in 2026 is approximately $1,035,100 (this is a renewal of previously authorized millage which expired with the 2025 tax levy and the addition of millage to, in part, restore millage lost as a result of the reduction required by the Michigan Constitution of 1963); andIn addition, shall the previously voted increase in the authorized charter millage for the Charter Township of DeWitt, Clinton County, Michigan, which may be assessed against all property as defined by law within the Township be renewed at 1.2239 mills ($1.2239 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation), and also be increased by .25 mill ($0.25 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation), for a period of 4 years, 2026 through 2029, inclusive, for the purpose of defraying, in whole or in part, the cost of operating the DeWitt Charter Township Police Department and for the acquisition, repair, replacement, maintenance and housing of the equipment and apparatus of the department; the estimate of the revenue the Township will collect if the millage is approved and levied in 2026 is approximately $1,035,100 (this is a renewal of previously authorized millage which expired with the 2025 tax levy and the addition of millage to, in part, restore millage lost as a result of the reduction required by the Michigan Constitution of 1963)?
