To address the cost of living crisis, the state legislature needs to take a multi-faceted, aggressive approach to bringing down costs for essential goods and services. I’ll fight to enact legislation that meaningfully increases the Commonwealth’s housing supply by spurring new construction and breaking down barriers to production. I’ll also support legislation that builds on our investment in Commonwealth Cares for Children (C3) grants to ensure that families can access high-quality, affordable childcare in the communities they live in. Lastly, I’ll support critical programs, like the Health Incentive Program (HIP), that allow families meaningful health services. Also, we should explore a fixed income grocery tax credit for seniors.
To ensure that the Commonwealth continues to work towards its climate goals without driving up energy costs and forcing out residents, I’ll support an “all sources” approach to energy. This means allowing residents to utilize traditional energy sources like natural gas and oil, while supporting long-term investments in clean energy sources and infrastructure, including wind, hydro, and solar, to eventually move our state onto 100% renewable energy. If we want to succeed in meeting our ambitious clean energy goals and mitigating climate change, we need to take a common-sense approach that doesn’t price out residents and businesses in the process.
Despite the majority of Massachusetts residents having some kind of health insurance, medical care has become increasingly unaffordable. To meet this challenge, I’ll fight to prohibit private equity firms and institutional investors from owning and operating health care providers like hospitals, community health centers, and rehab centers. I’ll also support additional reforms to strengthen MassHealth and the Massachusetts Health Connector. Lastly, I’ll build on the accomplishments of the PACT Act to further cap cost-sharing and expand oversight of Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) and drug pricing methods. We need to support local pharmacists and doctors.
The state needs to prioritize funding for our most foundational programs that have tangible benefits for residents. If elected, I’ll fight to reform the Chapter 70 funding formula, school transportation reimbursements, and the Special Education Circuit Breaker to allow for more equitable and effective investment in public school districts so that towns aren’t forced into no-win situations year after year. I’ll also work to increase Unrestricted General Government Aid to municipalities to support town infrastructure and initiatives. Lastly, I’ll fight for more larger investments to the state’s Chapter 90 programs so that roads, bridges, and critical infrastructure projects don’t put municipalities in dire financial straits.
I’ll work with stakeholders like town and city clerks, the Secretary of State’s office, and local police departments to ensure that election sites and processes are safe, secure, and invulnerable to federal interference. I'm proud to be the only candidate endorsed by public saftey officials in this election. I’ll oppose any efforts to share the state’s voter rolls or other sensitive information with predatory groups, fund voter education and poll watcher training initiatives, and work with city and state officials to create standardized, legal processes to respond to any potential interference. As an attorney and former town moderator in Lynnfield I know how important transparency in elections is!
I will support balanced policies that uphold public safety while protecting due process and the basic dignity of every person. Enforcement actions in sensitive places such as schools, churches, and hospitals should be barred without exigent circumstances regarding violent offenders. I also support requiring proper judicial warrants in courthouses and strong health, safety, and civil-rights standards for anyone held in federal immigration custody.
