I am a strong proponent of the Common Start legislation. It helps working families afford daycare while expanding pre-k education services . Families that have daycare are much more likely to stay in the workforce , generating income for themselves while also creating tax revenue for the general good of the commonwealth. We need additional investment in affordable workforce housing as well as transportation and infrastructure.
Our push for zero emissions by 2050 is worthy and well placed but we have painted ourselves in a bit of a corner by limiting the the use of natural gas. Consequentially, it has driven the supply and demand for electricity up and has put many working families in challenging places when it comes to choosing between am I Heating or are we eating this week. We need to be sure that we are having a well balanced approach to not hurt the very people we are trying to help. We also need to consider other sources of electric generation beside solar and windmills.
I am a proponent of Medicare for All for 3 reasons. First, it would expand access to healthcare by ensuring that every resident in MA has coverage regardless of income, employment, or pre-existing conditions. Second, it would simplify a complex healthcare system that currently burdens patients, providers, and businesses with excessive administrative costs. Third, it would help control healthcare spending by leveraging the purchasing power of a larger public system to negotiate lower costs for services and prescription medications. A responsible Medicare for All proposal must include clear plan for displaced workers, including retraining, wage assistance, job placement, and a path into growing healthcare professions and public service jobs.
I believe in out of the box thinking. I believe that one option is that Massachusetts should explore new revenue opportunities, including licensing and taxation of online gambling. Many neighboring states have successfully generated substantial revenue through regulated online gaming, and Massachusetts should ensure it is not leaving those dollars on the table. Those funds could be dedicated to healthcare access, mental health services, and addiction treatment programs. Any expansion of gaming should include strong consumer protections and responsible gaming safeguards.
Another area for reform is the taxation of offshore income. Massachusetts should review its tax policies to ensure they are more consistent with neighboring states and that
The security and independence of our elections must be protected from interference by anyone , whether it comes from federal officials, political activists, or outside organizations. Massachusetts has a strong tradition of fair and locally administered elections, and I believe we can build on that foundation.
First, I support strengthening protections for local election officials and poll workers. No one should face intimidation, harassment, or political pressure while carrying out their duties. State law should provide clear penalties for anyone attempting to interfere with the administration of elections or intimidate voters and election workers.
Second, we should continue investing in secure election infrastructure, including routine aud
We are a nation of laws, and those laws must be applied to everyone, equally. Immigrants should not have to fear being taken on their way to seek medical care or dropping a child off at school. We have laws that are meant to protect our nation and these laws do not require people to be treated inhumanely , without regard for compassion, respect or decency. I would not support cooperating with ICE under these circumstances.
