Okmulgee County Commissioner District No. 3

The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) is the county's administrative and business management entity. Three elected officials are responsible for the County’s execution of a wide range of legal and fiscal responsibilities including oversight of County programs and facilities and maintenance of the County highway system.Each elected commissioner, although elected by district, is responsible to the County as a whole and serves on the board to make joint decisions on County operations while ensuring that County government is accountable. Duties and responsibilities of the BOCC include, but are not limited to:Receiving, expending, and auditing fundsPreparing budgets and submitting to the Budget Board for final approval, which the BOCC also serves onActing on claimsAdvertising for bids and awarding contractsCalling bond issue electionsEach County Commissioner has been elected to represent their district for a four-year term. Election cycles are staggered to allow for continuity of operations within the County and its operations.Per the Oklahoma State Election Board website, a candidate must have been a registered voter within the county commissioner district and have maintained a current principal residence within such district for the six-month period immediately preceding the first day of the filing period prescribed by law.There are only candidates for a single party for this election. The winner of this primary election will be the next County Commissioner for this district. If no single candidate has a majority, the two candidates with the most votes will head to a primary run-off election in August. Only voters registered in the candidates' party will cast ballots in this run-off election.
