I've spent my life helping people understand health. Now I want to help protect the health of our community. As a registered nurse, educator, healthcare leader, and public health professional, I learned that preventing disease is just as important as treating it. Volunteering at the Disease Vector Education Center showed me how science, mosquito control, and community education work together to protect public health. I am running to bring a fresh informed perspective, a steady hand, and healthcare leadership to the board, ensuring we keep St Johns County healthy, informed, and prepared for the future.
Good public health begins with good information. The district's greatest challenge is staying ahead of mosquito-borne diseases while maintaining the public's trust through science, transparency, and responsible stewardship of taxpayer resources. I believe effective mosquito control rests on three equally important priorities: research that creates knowledge, mosquito control that applies it, and public education that shares it. I will ensure AMCD continues leading with science based decisions while maximizing every tax dollar. When residents understand their role, they become partners in protecting the health of our community. Mosquito control begins in our own backyards and knowledge is our best repellent!
My background as a nurse and healthcare executive uniquely qualifies me to protect our community. I know how to connect science to everyday life. After spending the past 2 years as a volunteer and outreach ambassador at the Disease Vector Education Center (DVEC), I have become an avid champion for its mission. While AMCD does cutting edge research, DVEC creates a force multiplier effect by educating the public. As my grandkids say, it is not just about skeeters, it is about halting deadly diseases. When families empty birdbaths and clean gutters, they become part of the solution. I bring experience, curiosity, integrity, sound judgment, and a willingness to listen, ask thoughtful questions, and make informed decisions.

It's our money. I've been a watchdog on mosquito control since 2006. Mosquitoes could bring us the next global pandemic. We will be prepared with data, research, education, and environmentally-friendly, non-toxic natural pesticides. My dad was an 82nd Airborne Division paratrooper, infected with malaria in Sicily. Dad recovered in Army hospitals, but we saw dad suffer lifetime effects. LWV's Ms. Robin Nadeau asked me to help her investigate Anastasia Mosquito Control of St. Johns County, buying a $1.8 million no-bid, luxury Bell Jet Long Ranger helicopter incapable of killing a single skeeter, not unlike buying a Porsche to propel a snowplow. We persuaded AMCD to cancel illegal, no-bid helicopter contract, saving $1.8 million in 2007.
Advancing research and education while protecting scientific integrity and employee whistleblower rights; safeguarding the independence of AMCD, an independent scientific and technical organization; protecting public health, the environment and public funds. Let's protect "whistleblower" ethical employees, who. must be heard. Let's encourage public participation.. Let's resist any further efforts by the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners to take over independent AMCD, as attempted by former SJC County Administrators and Commission Chairmen. I oppose arbitration clauses in AMCD contracts, I support a forensic audit. I've been a watchdog of mosquito control and spending since December 2006. Let's save tax money and protect lives
