Oklahoma Governor
Per Oklahoma.gov:The Oklahoma Constitution vests the supreme executive power of the state in a Chief Magistrate, styled “The Governor of the State of Oklahoma.” As chief executive, the Governor’s first duty is to cause the laws of the state to be faithfully executed and to preserve the peace throughout the state. The Governor also has many duties related to legislation. For instance, at the beginning of each legislative session, the Governor presents budget recommendations and reports on conditions in the state. Throughout the legislative session, bills passed by the Legislature are presented to the Governor for review. When presented, the Governor may sign the bill (to approve it as law) or veto the bill (sending it back to the Legislature, which can override a gubernatorial veto by a two-thirds vote). When state offices become vacant, the Governor, unless otherwise provided by law, makes appointments to fill vacancies subject to the consent of the Oklahoma Senate. Furthermore, the Governor serves as commander in chief of the state militia.--The Oklahoma Constitution establishes that gubernatorial candidates must be citizens of the United States, at least 31 years old, and residents of Oklahoma for at least ten years prior to their candidacy. The Governor can serve up to two four-year terms. As Oklahoma is a closed primary state, only voters registered in the candidates' party will cast ballots in this runoff primary election. Only voters registered in the candidates' party will cast ballots in this election. The winner of this run-off election will appear on the ballot for the general election in November.
