Candidate Information
Greg Bouwman was born and raised in Muskegon. Greg graduated from Muskegon High School and has lived in Muskegon Township for the last 20 years. Greg has served on the Planning Commission since 2010 and has been the chair of the planning commission since 2018.
My goals include:
-continue to promote responsible growth in the community by focusing on our citizens and their needs. I believe that by being a desirable place to live with ample housing will not only bring growth in population but will encourage businesses to locate or expand in our community.
-Promote collaboration across West Michigan to grow and develop together, reduce redundancies, and increase efficiencies for all governmental units.
-Proactively address data centers. Muskegon Township Planning Commission and the Muskegon Township Board of Trustees should seek to understand the wishes of our citizens and develop ordinances to ensure the will of the people is reflected well before we are approached by a company looking to develop.
-Adequate housing stock is a primary need across Muskegon Township and the Muskegon area more broadly.
-Staffing levels for police, fire, and public works. The health, safety, and security of our residents is a critical mission of the township. While all departments work with the board to creatively address their needs within the budget, police and fire specifically, remain understaffed putting public servants and citizens at higher levels of risk.
Social media is the best way to drive engagement and keep citizens informed. While there are fewer and fewer people who don’t engage with social media, Muskegon Township publishes a monthly newsletter, we keep our website up to date and residents can email me at any time.

Make sure that the Township is in a good financial position, while providing our residents with great public safety services, recreational opportunities (parks), and road maintenance.
I believe that it has always been critical to do what is best for ALL the residents of the township. We are a big township with a lot of residents and businesses. Trying to find a balance that is best for everyone can sometimes be difficult. When residents come to a township board meeting with a request, we have to think about how their request would affect the entire township.
I would use Facebook, email, and texting to communicate with many of our residents. Having been the previous Supervisor, and a high school graduate of the area, I am already Facebook friends with many of the residents.
