The greatest global challenge is still human-caused climate change, because it literally threatens life as we know it. It’s having tremendous impacts on the Gulf of Maine, including our crucial fisheries and land. The $60M cost to our coastal communities from just the storms in the winter and spring of 2023-2024 will not be the end of the cost of climate change in Maine. Although Maine's contribution to the problem is relatively small, fortunately we can be an outsized part of the solution. In the Maine Legislature, I’ve championed exportable renewable building materials (e.g. mass timber) that have tremendous environmental benefit.
Healthcare is of the biggest things I hear about in Deering Center, Libbytown, Deering Highlands, Rosemont, Stroudwater, and Woodford's Corner. Lower cost, high quality, equity, access and sustainability are all crucial. I address all of of them through teamwork on the Health and Human Services Committee, and through bills I sponsor or help others get passed and funded.

I also have worked a lot on building a fair and robust economy. Credit access and progressive taxes improve social mobility, and reduce generational wealth disparities. They benefit folks seeking housing, education, or other life-changing things.

Wanting healthcare, housing, and a fair economy aren't unique to House District 116, but they're very important to us!
I'm a pragmatic, progressive, evidence-driven military veteran, who became a family physician as a second career to help build a better world. I am guided by principles, and I'm unafraid to do the work to find common ground for the common good.

I hope voters will delve into samzager.org to learn more about the work I've done.
