I am running for the Anchor Bay School Board because I want to help ensure our students and community continue to have high-quality schools led by individuals who understand the educational system and listen to the values and priorities of the community. As an educator with nearly 20 years of experience, I believe my background can bring valuable perspective to Board decisions. This is also personal to me. My family is part of this community, and my own children attend Anchor Bay schools. I want Anchor Bay to remain a district where students have opportunities to learn, grow, and succeed.
I believe the Board must balance several important priorities: maintaining strong academic programs, supporting student safety and well-being, responsibly managing district resources, attracting and retaining quality staff, and maintaining the trust of our community. If elected, I would approach these issues by putting students first, using data and educational experience to evaluate decisions, being fiscally responsible, and listening to families, staff, students, and community members. I also believe Board decisions must consider how policies will practically impact classrooms and the people responsible for implementing them.
I believe Anchor Bay has made significant strides in school safety and security. Investments such as armed security personnel, police liaisons, increased camera coverage, and dedicated security leadership demonstrate a strong commitment to protecting students and staff. However, school safety can never be viewed as a finished project. Like all important systems, our safety plans and procedures must be continually evaluated, practiced, modified, and improved. I would support ongoing collaboration with law enforcement, staff, families, and safety professionals to ensure our practices continue to meet the needs of our schools.
The expansion of Anchor Bay's CTE programs through the last bond was an important step that significantly increased opportunities for students. I believe we should continue building upon that investment. College is an excellent pathway for many students, but it is not the only pathway to a successful career. As technology and AI continue to change the workforce, Anchor Bay should explore additional technical certifications, career pathways, apprenticeships, and partnerships with businesses and postsecondary programs. Our goal should be for every graduate to leave Anchor Bay prepared for a successful next step.
