Richardson Bond. Prop B

PROPOSITION B: PUBLIC BUILDINGS $36 million (16.1%)Supports public safety facilities, including:• A new Fire Apparatus Building• Additions and renovations at Fire Station No. 6• Design and authorization of future construction for Fire Station No. 7The proposed bond referendum does not include an increase in the City’s property tax rate of $0.542180 per $100 of net assessed value. According to the City, future property tax revenues at the existing tax rate are projected to be sufficient to repay the bond. However, since your taxes are based on your net assessed value, your taxes may increase or decrease if your net assessed value increases or decreases. State Law requires statement THIS IS A TAX INCREASE in each bond referendum.

Those in favor say: • The existing Fire Station No.6 infrastructure is outdated and not equipped to support the assigned personnel. • Upgraded, expanded, and new facilities can help our emergency fire responders operate more efficiently, reduce response times, and better serve a growing population. • Specialized facilities for fire safety equipment and maintenance allow for easier access to updated equipment and faster response times.
Those opposed say: • A new storage building may not be necessary; it would be better to use the empty fire station on the southeast corner of Plano Road and Collins Blvd. • Borrowing money to fund these projects will increase the financial burden on taxpayers by extending the timeframe over which money must be repaid. • The upgrading of a kitchen and expanded fitness facilities are wants, not needs.
