Training and Experience U.S. Army (JAG)
Volunteer/Community Service Past board member of the Northwest Ohio Sickle Cell Anemia Foundation, the Salvation Army, and Mercy Health System Board of Directors. He presently serves on the UT Paralegal Studies Advisory Board, Old News Boys, University of Toledo Foundation
Served on the Lucas County Common Pleas Court, General Division from 2011 -2020 presiding over complex civil and criminal matters. In 2016, I was only one of (6) six judges in the State of Ohio who presided over a commercial docket court created to expedite business litigation. In 2020, I was elected to the Ohio Sixth District Court of Appeals, where I was recently elected by my colleagues to lead the court as presiding judge. The appellate district is comprised of eight (8) counties (Lucas, Erie, Fulton, Huron, Ottawa, Sandusky, Williams and Wood). The court hears appeals arising in Common Pleas, County District Courts and Municipal Courts from all over northwest Ohio. I am the past President of the Toledo Bar Association and the University of Toledo College of Law Board of Governors.
My prior experience includes service as an officer in the U.S. Army JAG Corps, 10 years as a trial judge, and many years in private practice handling criminal, civil, and business litigation.
I am seeking re-election to continue my public service as a judge who comes to the job with a great deal of humility and integrity when applying the law fairly, impartially, and with respect for all who come before the court.
Courts face challenges including caseload demands, access to justice, and maintaining public confidence. These can be addressed through efficient case management, adherence to the rule of law, and treating all parties with fairness, dignity, and impartiality.
One of the greatest obstacles is unequal access to the legal court system. Courts must remain committed to ensuring that all litigants have an opportunity to be heard regardless of social economic status.
