Ohio already has a strong elections system, and our focus should be on maintaining both accessibility and integrity so voters have confidence in the results. That means continuing to support secure voter registration systems, accurate voter rolls, and clear identification requirements while ensuring every eligible Ohioan can vote without unnecessary barriers and access results with confidence in their accuracy and transparency.
Ohio's tax structure should encourage work, investment, and economic growth while being responsible with taxpayer dollars. We've made significant cuts to income tax rates and simplifying the tax code which benefits families and businesses. Continuing that approach will help keep Ohio competitive. Tax policy should remain predictable so employers feel confident expanding here, and ensure taxes do not penalize our small businesses or family farms that anchor many communities. Property tax reform plays a huge role in this, taxpayers should have the right to vote on all property taxes. We should also continue reviewing regulations and fees that function as hidden taxes. I am proud to have helped significantly reduce fees through Occupational Licensing Reform laws over the past six years.
Fiscal discipline matters. When government spends responsibly and avoids unnecessary mandates, it helps reduce the cost pressures placed on taxpayers. Reducing unnecessary regulatory burdens can lower costs for businesses and help keep prices down for consumers. Government should not be picking winners and losers.
My priority in education is ensuring that every student has access to high-quality learning that prepares them for success—whether that path leads to college, skilled trades, business, or military service. For K-12 education, that includes strengthening literacy and foundational learning, supporting teachers, and giving families meaningful choices in how their children are educated. Reducing regulatory burdens while ensuring transparency and accountability are critical. Prioritizing shared services, innovation in service, and career tech opportunities can connect schools, students, and communities. At the higher-education level, affordability, innovation, and freedom of thought are essential to preparing students for wherever their future may take them.
As a legislator and past State Board of Education member, I have approached policy discussions with respect, listen to differing viewpoints, and seeking common ground where possible. Transparency and open communication also help—when people understand why decisions are made, it reduces suspicion and encourages more constructive dialogue. Another important step is keeping debates focused on ideas rather than personal attacks. Disagreement is part of freedom, but civility strengthens institutions and builds trust. By prioritizing respectful conversation, collaboration on shared priorities, and a commitment to serving constituents first, we can help create a healthier political environment for Ohio.
