We're seeing ongoing attacks on election integrity and growing voter-suppression efforts at both the state and national levels. Voting should never be made harder. Rural Ohio continues to face low turnout because many people feel disenfranchised and unsure whether the information they receive is trustworthy. Gerrymandering has undermined fair elections by allowing legislators to choose their voters. Ohioans made it clear they wanted a fair, independent map-drawing process, yet the ballot language was made confusing and misleading on purpose. I am committed to changing that.
Rising home values and costs are creating real hardships for homeowners. Younger Ohioans are being priced out of the market, and older residents are struggling to stay in their homes. Families are stretching very dollar just to get by. Meanwhile, working Ohioans continue to pay their fair share while high-income earners contribute the bare minimum. That imbalance can be fixed, and the wealthiest should share in the tax burden so our communities can thrive.
I would focus on practical solutions to ease the financial strain on working Ohioans. Wages have not kept up with inflation, while costs of basic necessities continue to rise. Too many individuals and families are being forced into impossible choices-gas or food. Insurance premiums keep climbing while coverage shrinks. My approach would center on raising wages, strengthening access to affordable healthcare and childcare. Greater accountability for insurance companies and support policies that stabilize essential costs so Ohioans can plan and budget without constant fear of the next price hike. Ohioans deserve an economy that works for them, not one that keeps them struggling to stay afloat.
There is a sustained attack on our public education system. Taxpayer dollars are being diverted to private, charter, and religious schools-directly violating the Ohio Constitution-while the legislature continues cutting funding for public schools. This makes it harder to provide a quality education, offer the resources students need to thrive, and support teachers in the classroom. SB1 further threatens higher education by restricting the teaching of important and sometimes controversial topics, undermining academic freedom and institutional autonomy and stripping professors of their collective-bargaining rights. We must restore full funding through the Fair School Funding Plan and reverse the harmful attacks on higher education to protect the future of Ohio's students and educators.
Reducing hyper-partisanship starts with rebuilding trust. I've worked hard to bridge divides because I believe we share more common ground than the issues that fuel hostility. Listening and genuinely trying to understand where someone is coming from is essential. People often react with anger when they feel threatened or unheard. As a counselor, I bring a perspective rooted in empathy, patience and respect for all people. I would work to model civility, encourage honest dialogue and create spaces where every voice can be heard without fear or judgement.
