What changes would you make, if any, to voting and elections policy?
What type of tax reform, if any, would best serve Ohio?
How would you address concerns about the rising cost of living?
What are your priorities for K-12 and higher education?
How would you reduce hyperpartisanship and promote civility?
Training and Experience
I served on the Columbia Local School Board for 8 years, 2008 to 2015. I was president for four years and served concurrently on the Lorain County JVS board for 4 years.
I would get rid of voter suppression laws the legislature has passed in recent years, including the most recent Senate Bill 293 which took away the grace period for mail-in ballots.
To alleviate the burden of property taxes, the legislature needs to properly fund our schools and local government funds. They also need to stop working toward a flat tax, which only aids the wealthy.
We need to raise the minimum wage and when we build industry in Ohio, those jobs should go to Ohioans. When we build housing developments, in return for the tax abatement, we should require them to add affordable homes (under $200, 000) to the neighborhood. And we need to strengthen our support for Ohioans who are struggling due to rising costs.
The legislature spent $1 billion on EdChoice private school vouchers last year and intend to spend $2 billion this year. That money needs to go back to our public schools to support the Fair School Funding plan. We need to protect our public employee unions. And we need to stop the censorship and attack on academic freedom. Public schools are the foundation on which we build a strong, successful Ohio.
Even though people may be on different sides of the political fence, we can come together over shared values and experiences and do it with kindness and respect - in person and on social media.
