I would work to protect voting rights for all eligible citizens through expanded access to early voting, maintain an extended deadline past Election Day for mail in ballots, and work to prevent the state from expunging voter rolls without giving advance notice to voters. It is important that every American maintains the right to vote in free and fair elections without fear of suppression. I oppose the SAVE Act and believe it will disenfranchise millions of Americans.
We need to reform how property taxes are levied in Ohio. We need to raise taxes on properties valued greater than $750,000 and lower taxes on properties less than that. We also need to raise taxes on the wealthy in our state to make them pay their fair share. This means increasing the state's income tax to make the wealthy contribute more to the state's overall tax revenue. We need to keep growing our tax revenue without taxing the working class. I support measures to cap property tax increases on lower and middle class residents so that rates do not increase more than they are currently at. I currently have a property tax plan for funding schools on my website.
I would take on corporations for price gouging every day Ohioans. I would look at prices for items like groceries, energy bills, and gasoline from 2019 and compare them to prices now and compared to what they should be according to economic theory models and fine companies for over charging Ohioans on every day goods. I also support a universal basic income for low income and middle class individuals as well as raising the minimum wage in Ohio to keep up with inflation.
I believe in smaller class sizes, higher standards for curriculum that includes speaking about other cultures, ethnicities, sexualities, and religions. I also support universal Pre-K, affordable public college, and even free college for high performing lower income students. I also am in support of DEI policies on college campuses and am adamantly against the passed SB 1 in Ohio that punishes universities for being open to DEI. I believe in the state increasing its funding for public schools and taking the burden off of the working and middle class. We need property taxes to fund schools but it should not be up to the districts themselves. The state needs to step up to the plate and fund a majority of each underfunded district's budget. We need to give teachers a raise and support unions.
I would work across the aisle to come to common sense compromises that benefit all Ohioans, not just the elite. I will not participate in mudslinging, name calling, or engage in conversations that put down my fellow colleagues or other Ohioans. I will not be afraid to call out those that disrespect Ohioans and will not be afraid to whistleblow corruption on both sides of the aisle. I will have an open door policy and will encourage conversations with my Republican colleagues.
