Stark County Issue 15: Perry Township Roads
Additional, 2.9 mills, roads, 5 years, commencing 2026.Perry Township Trustees are asking voters to approve a 2.9-mill road levy.If Issue 15 is approved, the five-year levy would generate nearly $2.7 million a year. It would cost the owner of a $100,000 home $102 a year. The road department now relies solely on a 2-mill levy which expires at the end of this year. This levy generates $701,830 a year and costs the owner of a $100,000 home $22.16 a year. With the current budget, the township is unable to pave any significant amount of roads. In 2024, it cost approximately $130,000 to pave one mile of road. The township is responsible for 150 miles of roads, including maintenance and paving; weed control on road rights-of-way; storm sewers; catch basins; township road signs and snow removal. Costs for asphalt, fuel and materials continue to rise. Passage of this levy will allow the township to pave up to 20 miles of roads annually. It will also allow the township to reopen the yard waste site immediately. The site was funded previously by an external grant which has expired. With the sole 2-mill levy set to expire later this year, passage is crucial. Without it, no road paving will be done, the yard waste site will remain closed, and as employees leave, they will not be replaced.
