The League of Women Voters sent us this questionnaire on a Friday morning at 11:08 am and demanded that we have a response to the questionnaire by the following Monday morning. Obviously they sent it out to us with such a short deadline to respond that they did not expect us to respond. Which begs the question: why did they send it so late when they have known for weeks now that we are running for Congress? I have only three conclusions: lack of professionalism, massive partisan politics in a nonpartisan political organization, or good old fashioned American incompetence.
If the League of Women Voters is not a professional organization that is interested in getting women and others involved in politics and elections, then they have fallen way short of their goals and our expectations when they are not interested in contact with campaigns that have filed for office. Certainly they will claim to have a large volunteer staff, but that’s not an excuse for the lack of professionalism that has been expected from a long established organization. There are plenty of other organizations that have hundreds of volunteers and are still able to work in a professional manner.
The League of Women Voters has been established as a nonpartisan political organization for decades. If they are choosing to limit their outreach to independent candidates they are ignoring the issue that many voters are displeased with the establishment political parties. The delay in the outreach to our political campaign, and and additional demand for our time in a manner that will add stress to our small, independent campaign demonstrates that they are willing to be partisan for the Democrats and Republicans. They have become beholden to establishment politics because they are afraid of losing whatever clout they have in their community. They don’t have any clout and denial of independent candidates a platform on their debate stage is heresy to their foundational principles.
Perhaps the League of Women Voters is incompetent. If we follow Occam’s Razor, then it must be that they are incompetent. If the LWV is incompetent, then they are not qualified to serve in any capacity as an organization that serves to educate the voters. It’s the American way for incompetence to lead. As long as money is the loudest voice in the room, the people who have the most money will be the loudest ones and will be making the decisions for all of us despite their ability to have independent, free thought. Our liberty is now being tied to the right of money to control our speech.
Our campaign will not take this questionnaire seriously because the League of Women Voters of Ohio does not take our campaign as seriously as they have the Republican and Democratic candidates campaign. We do not expect them to invite us or any independent candidates to participate in their political theater for the establishment parties. Michael Veloff, Drunk Uncle for Congress
