I would propose a series of legislative amendments to Ohio’s voting and election policies. First, I recommend reinstating weekend voting and extending it throughout the entire early voting period. Secondly, I would advocate for the removal of the current requirement that absentee ballots be received by the board of elections before 7:30 pm on Election Day. Instead, I will advocate for permit mailed ballots to be counted if they are postmarked by Election Day and arrive at the local board of elections within four days thereafter, which is consistent with previous law. Finally, I would introduce a bill that provides for the automatic registration of individuals to vote when they obtain or renew their driver’s license, vehicle registration, state identification card or update their address.
My proposed tax reform aims to guarantee that all individuals contribute fairly to the State of Ohio by eliminating the "flat" income tax policy that was recently included in Ohio's 2025 biennial budget. The "flat" income tax policy is filled with tax breaks and loopholes that mostly favor the wealthiest Ohio residents, while providing minimal help for most Ohioans by shifting more of the financial burden onto middle- and lower-income individuals. To ensure everyone contributes fairly, another proposed reform would be to implement "bracket indexing," which adjusts income tax brackets according to inflation. Although Ohio already has automatic bracket indexing in its tax code, it has been suspended by the legislature for the last four years.
To address the rising cost of living, I would promote legislation aimed at expanding access to affordable housing, implementing long-term property tax relief, such as increasing funding for the Homestead and Owner Occupied Tax credit, strengthening prevailing wage standards, increasing support services to reduce childcare expenses, investing in preventive healthcare, providing student loan relief and enforcing regulations to lower utility costs.
My main goals for K-12 and higher education are to boost support staff for teachers, establish universal pre-K, ensure public schools have adequate funding, and strengthening the teacher workforce by improving retention, recruitment, and offering competitive pay. I would also prioritize well-funded literacy programs and creating career pathways for K-12 students. Regarding higher education, I am focused on making college and trade schools more affordable, advancing workforce development, increasing state funding for colleges, and promoting AI literacy.
I have proven experience in governing while serving in the minority and still getting things done. I built relationships with my Republican colleagues that extended beyond City Hall and we were able to work together to find the best solutions for our residents and visitors to our City. To address hyper-partisanship, I would prioritize engaging in constructive and fact-based dialogue with individuals who hold diverse political and social perspectives. Nevertheless, fostering civility and direct communication with those who have opposing viewpoints can help to identify shared interests. By collaborating across ideological differences and moving beyond polarized rhetoric, it is possible to develop solutions for critical challenges like poverty, quality education, and affordable housing.
