Johnson County Council, District 3

The Johnson County Council consists of seven members, four elected from districts and three elected at-large. Council members approve tax rates, salaries, and major expenditures for county departments and services. Each member serves a four-year term.

Previously served on the Johnson County Council for 4 years (served as President and Vice President). Also served as County Commissioner and was chairman of the board for 4 years. I was a state legislator for 4 years and served as chairman on the Local Government Committee.
All budget information would have to be reviewed before making an informed decisition on this matter. However, I would explore every avenue for additional funding. This could be through grants, low-cost bonds, or the 80/20 match through federal funding programs.
My top priority would be to have a balanced budget without increasing taxes. I think the Council must work closely with elected officials and department heads to set priorities that benefit taxpayers.
The entire project would have to be evaluated to weigh the benefits to all county taxpayers. ie. How many jobs would it bring into the County? What level jobs would they include? What is the future tax benefits to the County?
I've always had an open-door policy in my previous roles and I would provide my email address to residents and make myself available when needed.
High energy consumption could stress the power grid. High water usage could strain water supplies. Noise could also be a factor to consider. Tax revenue could be significant and improved infrastructure could be positive,
