Incumbent County Executive Chris Ronayne is running unopposed in the Democratic Party primary. He is seeking his second four-year term as the chief executive of the county government. No Republican candidate filed to run in that party's primary. Ronayne is the third person to hold the county executive post since the new executive-council form of government was formed in 2011. A second candidate, Tariq K. Shabazz, has filed as a nonpartisan candidate and will face Ronayne in the November General Election. Shabazz will not be on the primary ballot.THE LEAGUE WILL SEND A QUESTIONNAIRE TO BOTH CANDIDATES BEFORE THE NOVEMBER GENERAL ELECTION.
