No Republican filed to run in that party's primary.Three candidates, including incumbent Martin J. Sweeney, are running for the Democratic Party nomination for this seat on County Council. Sweeney's challengers are Anise Mayo and Stephanie K. Thomas. All three candidates are residents of Cleveland. Sweeney was appointed to Council in 2021 and won a four-year term in November 2022. Mayo is a registered nurse who has specialized in community health. And Thomas, an architect, is co-founder and President of Shelter the People Cleveland, a housing nonprofit.District 3 comprises the city of Brooklyn and, in the city of Cleveland, all of Wards 11 and 15 and portions of Ward 3, 12, 13, 14 and 16. The Cleveland precincts include West Boulevard and Edgewater.
