Altoona is in need of responsible growth management, which begins with our elected officials and them being active in our community to hear directly from our neighbors. Our city is expanding quickly, yet infrastructure is neglected repeatedly. Residents are seeing more traffic, road wear, and pressure on utilities and schools. I support smart development, where growth pays for growth. That means requiring realistic traffic studies, fair developer contributions for infrastructure, and long-term planning before approvals. Altoona is growing fast, and our residents should always know their council members will listen to them for crucial input. In Altoona, we can welcome new investment while protecting taxpayers and the quality of life for all who call Altoona home now and in the future.
Families and seniors need stability, not surprise increases driven by rushed decisions or poor long-term planning. As costs rise, local governments must be disciplined and transparent. I would prioritize responsible budgeting, long-term capital planning, and ensuring existing residents aren’t left to foot the bill. Every major spending decision should be evaluated through one lens: does this protect taxpayers while maintaining essential services? Affordability is practical leadership, any costs to the city and its residents should first be minimized by applying for state and federal grants where applicable. My neighbors can count on me to make sure the city seeks all available financial resources to keep money in their pockets, while not impacting current services.
Another important issue in Altoona is thoughtful zoning decisions, including proposals like a potential data center-only zone. Zoning shapes our tax base, traffic patterns, utility demand, and long-term land use. Large-scale projects like data centers can bring investment, but they also raise questions about energy consumption, water use, infrastructure strain, and long-term community impact. Any major rezoning should be backed by transparent fiscal analysis, infrastructure capacity studies, and meaningful public input before approval. I support careful review to ensure new zoning strengthens our tax base, protects neighborhoods, and does not shift hidden costs onto existing residents. Growth should be strategic, and rezoning is key to strategic growth and managing it.
A key priority is to fix aging infrastructure. Roads, stormwater systems, and utilities require proactive investment, not reactive repairs. Delaying maintenance only makes projects more expensive and unpredictable for taxpayers. I support long-term capital planning, prioritizing preventative maintenance, and ensuring development contributes fairly to infrastructure upgrades so we protect both public safety and affordability. Another priority is a Live, Work, Play: Altoona initiative. This initiative allows Altoona to focus on quality of life and make plans for more affordable housing and availability of it, creating workforce opportunities for our community to limit commutes and spend more time with their families. We should look for ways to expand our public park spaces for our community.
