The Township Trustee is the chief executive and fiscal officer of the township. Trustee responsibilities include: providing emergency relief to township residents in need of assistance with food, shelter and other temporary necessities, making financial decisions relative to the operation of the township office and advising the board as needed in matters related to township property such as cemeteries and parks; ensuring that township government operations are in full compliance with Indiana state law and public disclosure requirements.
I am running because I believe strong, well-run local government matters—especially now. Indiana townships are being questioned and, in some cases, targeted for elimination. That makes competent, transparent leadership essential. I am motivated by my experience in public service and community work, and by the belief that Indian Creek Township can be an example of how this office should function. I want to ensure residents receive fair, respectful assistance when they need it, and that the township operates responsibly, ethically, and with clear purpose.
With decreasing and unpredictable revenues, my goals for are to protect the essential, be frugal, and demonstrate value. Township assistance must be equitable, predictable and in writing. These are principles that I think are basic to serving local communities and they must be part of our planning even as we face an unknown future.
Our township plays a critical role by providing emergency assistance, assisting with county emergency management and by serving as a resource to assist residents with appropriate disaster relief services. As a Trustee in our township it is my role to serve as a critical point of contact to residents during an emergency. In addition to providing emergency assistance the township can also provide assistance to residents in connecting with other disaster recovery services and aid. In today’s world it is more important than ever to have preparedness, clear communication and partnerships in place to be able to react in a timely and effective manner to disasters such as tornadoes or floods.
