I am a citizen and tax payer in Lake County. I am a Union Ironworker (Local #1) and have experience as a foreman on job sites, where managing people and utilizing resources effectively is paramount to keeping budgets in line and time lines in check. I pledge to begin the hiring process to onboard a CPA (presently, there are no CPAs employed by the Auditor's Office) to oversee the office within the first 90 days.
With SEA 1, and the way that it will affect our property
taxes, there is an opportunity to lower our income tax. With the Auditor's Office, I plan to show evidence that Lake County does not need a 1.5% property tax. We can see a reduction of 1% to .75% effectively lowering our income tax to half of what it is currently.
I will also implement strong internal controls. Better internal controls mean fewer errors, less waste, and stronger protection for your hard-earned money.
Ultimately, ensuring the Auditor's Office is in compliance with the State Board of Accounts Rules and Regulations is my highest priority, because in 2022, for the first time in Indiana's history, Lake County was deemed an inauditable entity.
