What training and experience qualifies you to serve as Justice of the Peace for Kendall County Precinct 3?
What are the duties and the role of the Justice of the Peace for Kendall County Precinct 3?
I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice from UTSA. I have also attended 700 plus hours of instruction from the Justice Court Training Center. Including courses in Crime Scene techniques and Court Security. I have completed training in “Juvenile Law” and “Juvenile Justice in the School” from the Institute of Criminal Justice Studies. I have attended courses in Mass Fatality Management Training from the South Texas Regional Advisory Council. I completed a Crisis Intervention course through the Burnet County Sheriff"s Department. I also served on a domestic violence task force to set up a protocol for handling alleged perpetrators and victims of domestic violence. I helped write a grant which enabled Kendall County to receive funds for a domestic violence coordinator. I also worked with other agencies to bring Pre-Trial Services to our county.
Duties include hearing contested criminal cases and civil cases. The Court handles lawsuits less than $20,000. The Judge speaks with citizens who have questions about their tickets or who just need to know how a process works. The Judge supervises the Court Clerks and makes sure all employees are trained properly. We also do emergency detentions for persons who are a danger to themselves or others. The Judge handles defendants at the jail who are read their rights and requested whether they need court-appointed attorneys. The Judge sets the bond for arrestees. The Judge also goes out on unattended deaths to determine cause and manner of death. The Judge also handles juveniles for Truancy cases and when a Juvenile Warning is needed to get a statement for law enforcement.
I bring more than three decades of public service, investigative, and leadership experience to the role of Justice of the Peace. I served in the United States Army in a variety of leadership positions requiring disciplined judgment and accountability. I am a licensed Texas private investigator with extensive experience supporting criminal defense, civil litigation, forensic interviewing, and evidence documentation. I am also an entrepreneur and small business owner, giving me practical insight into disputes affecting working families and local businesses. I hold a degree in business management and have completed graduate level coursework in management and human resources. My professional background includes regulatory compliance, risk assessment, and detailed report writing. This combination of service, legal exposure, and real-world business experience prepares me to administer justice fairly, efficiently, and with respect for every person who appears before the court.
The Justice of the Peace performs defined legal duties that include presiding over Class C misdemeanor cases, civil disputes within statutory limits, eviction proceedings, small claims matters, and magistrate responsibilities such as issuing warrants, setting bail, and conducting inquests. The court also manages administrative functions necessary for lawful and efficient operations. Beyond these explicit duties, the role carries important community responsibilities. An effective Justice of the Peace remains engaged in civic life, builds public trust, and works collaboratively with community partners. As an entrepreneur and small business owner, I recognize the real impact court decisions can have on families, students, and local businesses. I am committed to supporting early intervention approaches to truancy that emphasize prevention, accountability, and collaboration with schools and families before court involvement becomes necessary, strengthening long-term outcomes for Precinct 3
