My main priority is to accomplish the duties given me by the Arkansas constitution. Preserving the peace, maintaining the jail, serving legal processes, and providing security for the courts.
have been a certified law enforcement officer for over 16 years. I started and served almost all of those years as a deputy with the Sheriff's Office. I have held rank from deputy to lieutenant and I have been a supervisor in every division at the Sheriff's Office (patrol, criminal investigation, judicial, detention). I was also one of the first 10 deputies to serve on the special response team (SRT)(SWAT) and I have been the team leader for that team. I was also a diver on the sheriff's office dive team. I have always been willing to do dangerous work. I attended the police academy in Camden, AR where I graduated with honors in academics. I am also an Army Infantry Combat Veteran!
I believe the biggest challenge we are currently facing is staffing in our jail. It has been understaffed and under trained for many years. On most days there are nearly 400 inmates in that jail and on a good day it has 6 guards. I’ll let you do the math but that's not cutting it. The way our jail runs needs to be revamped from the top down. We have to put leaders in place that are capable of delivering a clear mission to the detention deputies and who are present and help accomplish that mission. We have to focus on recruiting and retaining our deputies. For most detention deputies the training stops at jail standards. This is not acceptable and needs to be addressed.
