What is your experience working with budgets the size of the Blanco County budget?

Do you feel the budget for Blanco County is adequate for the needs of the county? Explain.

What are your top three priorities, if elected as the County Commissioner for Precinct 2?

How do you plan to address your priorities within the scope of your duties per the Texas Constitution?

I’ve served two years on the Johnson City city Council working with budgets, infrastructure and local issues and I’ve spent 15 years in leadership with the Johnson City Volunteer Fire Dept. that experience taught me accountability emergency management and how to be responsible with the taxpayers dollar. I’m ready to bring that practical hands-on experience to serving precinct 2.
While I have not directly managed a budget as large as Blanco counties, I have worked with public budgets on the Johnson City city Council, and in leadership with the Johnson City voluntary fire department. Those rules required prioritization needs, fiscal discipline, and accountability to taxpayers- principles, I’ll apply to the county level.
Blanco County must live within its means. The budget should focus on core services, not growing government. With responsible, priorities, transparency, and fiscal discipline, I believe the county can meet its needs without unnecessary spending or higher taxes.
My top priorities are maintaining and improving county roads, protecting Blanco County ground water, and ensuring transparent, fiscally responsible government. I’ll focus on core services, responsible budgeting, and open communication to precinct 2 taxpayers no their money is being spent wisely.
I’ll address my priorities by setting policy, improvement, responsibility, budgets, and providing oversight as outlined in the Texas constitution. I will work collaboratively to ensure county funds are spent effectively on core services like roads, ground water, protection, and public safety.
Education: Graduate of Angelo State University with a Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees. I have worked with and served as a public servant for most all of my life. I served Blanco and Llano Counties as a County Extension Agent for a total of 21 years and served the South Region as Administrator for AgriLife Extension for 7 years, covering 41 counties.
I was elected and served on the Johnson City Independent School Board for 12 years. This experience taught me to understand large budgets through annual budget workshops and building the budget for the school district. As one of the board members I gained a good understanding of how tax rates and property values work to gain revenue for the budget and how difficult it can be to stay withing your means when the needs are many.
Yes, with wise use of resources. The Blanco County tax base has grown with land being converted from Agricultural valuation tracts to smaller tract development and homesites. However, with growth comes challenges to stay ahead of the demands on infrastructure. This will be critical as we move forward and continue to grow in population. The main thing for me is to be a good steward of taxpayer money, prioritize the projects and needs of the precinct and work efficiently to accomplish those projects.
1. Smart growth for Blanco County's future 2. Protecting our water and public safety 3. Building economic prosperity through Tourism and Heritage See my website for information on each of these priorities.
Working within the framework of law is paramount at all levels of government. Being open honest and striving for transparency within all budget/business decisions related to the county. Honesty, listening, serving people are pillars of character I have worked toward all my life.
