Candidate Statement I've never had political aspirations. I just show up and speak up when I should, which tends to get noticed and then people recommend ways that I can contribute more directly. My goal is simply to support Jackson Township to keep everyone safe and healthy so they can enjoy this community as much as my wife and I do.

I am seeking elected office because I have a deep commitment to our community and I believe that my participation in the Township Board would be helpful. Our township, like many rural areas, faces challenges that must be addressed proactively. I want to be a voice for residents who deserve a government that listens to their concerns and works to solve their problems in practical, meaningful ways. One of my least favorite explanations is “that’s the way we’ve always done it.” But I also strongly disagree with “change is inevitable.” To me, neither of those is an acceptable answer to any topic or challenge. We need decision-makers who can explain the Why for every What they do.
Indiana Code IC 36-6 stipulates in tedious detail the role of township government. Notably the township provides fire protection and has several other responsibilities such as maintenance of unfunded cemeteries and coordinating assistance to the public. Beyond those official duties, I believe the township government should serve as a direct and accessible link between local citizens and the broader county or state government. The Township Board is here to address the specific needs of our community. Like many roles in local government, serving on the Township Board can become what the individual members make it (beyond those legislated minimum responsibilities). An example of this for me would be participation in other aspects of local government such as continued attendance at Town Council and Plan Commission meetings, but with the added weight of speaking to represent the Township in addition to my own personal views as a citizen.
Pressure for development in Jackson Township will continue. We must prepare as needed, adapt when appropriate, stand firm when necessary and keep our community great. My first priority is listening and staying informed. Local government must clearly understand how decisions affect residents, schools, fire services, infrastructure, businesses and more. I will use that knowledge to make logical, fact-based decisions that best serve our community. Whether participating in an official Township Board meeting or elsewhere such as public hearings, I will press for strong justification, challenge poor ideas and ensure all implications are fully considered. I support exploring additional state and federal grants to expand our resources. At the same time, I will be a responsible steward of current funds—spending them effectively and prioritizing compassionate assistance where needed. Data is a vital tool. I will advocate for using statistics, trends, and projections to guide decisions.
I bring a practical, solutions-oriented mindset to the Township Board. Throughout my career, I’ve tackled complex projects with no clear roadmap, developing strong problem-solving skills along the way. My professional experience has equipped me with the ability to manage budgets, navigate challenging issues, and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders. I’m an empathetic listener and a clear communicator who values transparency and fiscal responsibility. I’m genuinely curious about people and their work, and I hold deep respect for all contributions in our community—from small business owners and farmers to first responders and educators. I excel at breaking large problems into manageable pieces, helping parties understand each other’s perspectives, insisting on facts, and guiding collaborative decisions. By working together, we can achieve far more for Jackson Township.
My faith drives me. I believe we are all called to share our gifts and talents. For my entire life, I have always been active in a church. I have taught and mentored youth, served on councils and committees, volunteered for countless events. Beyond the church that my wife and I attend, I have also served for over 20 years on a committee that helps guide churches through difficult decisions regarding repairs, expansion, renovation or construction of their facilities. Prior to residing in Jackson Township, I served on the Westfield Advisory Plan Commission. Through this, I gained insights which continue to shape my opinions and form my concerns. As an active volunteer in Hamilton County Emergency Management, I was asked to lead the Comms Ops team. I am also a member of the Community Emergency Response Team which covers most of Jackson Township.

The responsibilities of a township government are to help with public assistance, fire protection, cemetery maintenance, and other duties.
Growth and providing services. As member of the township board, constant planning and preparing for the inevitable growth by providing the proper funding is a constant financial challenge. I will continually evaluate the best funding options for continued services and look for better funding options when available.
I have experience as a member of the Jackson Township Board. Roughly 85% of the Township Budget is spent on Fire and EMS. I have over 28 years of professional fire department knowledge that would be of benefit to the Township. I have learned: the budgeting process, the importance of seeking and applying for grants to supplement the budget, building relationships with local organizations to improve support for our community, and negotiating to provide the best outcome for the Township.
Experience as a board member on the on the Jackson Township Board, numerous leadership roles in a professional fire department, I was a former Jackson Township volunteer fire chief, and experience as a precent committeeman.
