Ballot QuestionThe present Charter provides for charter officers to be removed from office only by a super majority vote of the full Town Council. The Town Council has proposed that charter officers be able to be removed from office by a majority vote of the full Town Council. Shall the above described amendment be adopted?SynopsisCharter officers are positions such as the Town Manager and Town Attorney. When the Town Council considered hiring Jeff Kurtz as Town Attorney last year, members realized that it would take only a majority vote (3-2) of the full Town Council to hire him, while it would take a supermajority vote (4-1) of the full Town Council to dismiss him. During the process, the council reached a consensus to make both votes 3-2.Yes - For the Measure Means:If voters accept the ballot measure, the Charter will be amended to allow removal of charter officers by a majority vote of the full Town Council.No - Against the Measure Means:If voters reject the ballot measure, the current Charter provision will remain in place, requiring a supermajority vote of the full Town Council for removal of charter officers.
