Boynton Beach Charter Amendment Question 2-Candidate Residency Requirements for Elected Office

Ballot LanguageShall the City Charter be amended to require that candidates have resided continuously within the City for at least two (2) years prior to filing for office?SynopsisThis amendment would increase the minimum residency requirement for candidates running for Mayor or City Commission. The current requirement is one (1) year of continuous residency to qualify. The proposed requirement is two (2) years of continuous residency in the City — and district, if applicable — before filing to run for office. This affects candidates for Mayor and candidates for City Commission, who also would face district residency requirements. If approved, candidates would need to live in the City and district, when applicable, longer before becoming eligible to run for office. The amendment does not affect voter eligibility or current officeholders.Yes - For the Measure Means:If voters accept this ballot initiative, the minimum residency requirement for candidates to run for Mayor or City Commission would increase to two (2) years. No - Against the Measure Means:If voters reject this ballot initiative, the minimum residency requirement for candidates to run for Mayor or City Commission would remain one (1) year.
