A veteran educator of 34 years with more than 20 years serving in Rowan County, and a Nationally Board Certified Teacher since 1998.
A school board member is responsible for overseeing and setting priorities for the district. They should also promote equity for the students and staff. A school board member should also make sure students are prepared for a post secondary education, the military, or the workforce by utilizing the best resources available.
Our district needs to recruit, retain, support, and empower outstanding teachers, and support staff. I believe we could redirect funding to achieve this goal.
I would improve support for beginning teachers with peer partnering, allow more teacher input into resource purchases, and allow them to work together to create strong curriculum.
Pre-Kindergarten is extremely important to my district, it allows students and encourages the children to enjoy all aspects of learning at an early age. Pre-Kindergarten is a critical base successful learning environment.
My Principles - All schools should provide a top-notch education. Encourage reading for fun in the early years. Invest in safe, quality transportaion for all students. Value school support staff by improving working conditions. Prepare school system for future population growth. Reduce classroom sizes.
