NC DISTRICT COURT JUDGE DISTRICT 26 SEAT 14
The NC District Court hears civil cases involving less than $25,000 and criminal misdemeanors. District Court also oversees juvenile court and the magistrates, which handle things like small claims and evictions. Judges are elected for 4 year terms. There are 282 judges in 41 districts across the state, most of them covering either one or two counties. Legislation in 2023 numerically realigned/renumbered the District Court and other court districts to align with the Prosecutorial districts.

For almost four years, I have presided over civil and criminal matters. I hear domestic cases as a designated Family Court Judge, conduct bench and jury trials, first appearances, and probable cause hearings. I show up ready to work and work hard to get it right. I review each case and associated rules, give parties an opportunity to be heard, listen respectfully, treat people with dignity, and resolve matters based on the facts determined by the evidence presented and existing law. I maintain an open mind and carefully consider the issues, without losing sight of the people in front of me who rely on our court system to defend and protect our rights and freedoms.
Pursuant to current law, North Carolina elects its judges and candidates must be affiliated with a political party or obtain the legally required number of signatures to run as an unaffiliated candidate.
I was in private practice for almost a decade before I began serving on the district court bench. I gained extensive experience working with a variety of clients. I was trained as a collaborative attorney, parenting coordinator, and NCDRC Family Financial Mediator. I served as a volunteer attorney for local and statewide programs helping low-income adults, minor children, and servicemembers.
I have served on and chaired, and continue to serve on and volunteer for, local and statewide nonprofit organizations.
