FLORENCE AND FOREST COUNTIES CIRCUIT COURT JUDGE

Wisconsin’s courts play a vital role in protecting our rights and upholding the rule of law. State courts hear approximately 95% of all cases, including matters involving families, contracts, criminal law, voting rights, juvenile justice, and constitutional questions. They are the final arbiters of state law and the Wisconsin Constitution. The Wisconsin Circuit Courts are the main trial courts for civil and criminal cases in the Wisconsin court system. They also hear cases appealed from Municipal Courts and from administrative hearings. At least one circuit court judge serves in each of the state's 72 counties. Voters elect Circuit Court judges to serve six-year terms in nonpartisan elections. There is no term limit.Learn more

My background reflects a long-standing commitment to public service and justice. I served more than 13 years in the United States military, including deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, where I learned discipline, responsibility, and dedication to serving others. After leaving the military, I pursued a legal career focused on public service. I worked as Assistant Corporation Counsel for Forest County, represented indigent clients as a public defender, and currently serve as the elected District Attorney for Forest County. In each of these roles, I have worked to ensure that the justice system functions fairly and effectively for victims, defendants, and the community.
My professional experiences have required me to work with people from many different backgrounds and circumstances. As a public defender, I represented individuals who could not afford legal representation and worked to protect their constitutional rights. As a prosecutor, I have worked with victims, law enforcement, defendants, and attorneys to resolve cases fairly and efficiently. My military service also exposed me to diverse individuals and perspectives. These experiences have helped me develop the ability to listen carefully, treat people with respect, and understand the wide range of situations that bring people into the courtroom.
Maintaining impartiality is essential to public confidence in the judiciary. If elected, I will ensure that every decision I make is based on the law, the facts presented in court, and the applicable legal standards. My responsibility will be to apply the law fairly and consistently, without regard to personal opinions or outside influences. I will also conduct myself professionally and respectfully in the courtroom so that all parties understand they are being treated equally under the law.
To ensure fairness, I will carefully review the facts and legal arguments presented in every case and apply the law consistently. My experience as both a public defender and a prosecutor has given me insight into the perspectives of both sides in criminal matters. I will ensure that all parties have an opportunity to be heard, that constitutional rights are respected, and that decisions are grounded in the law and the evidence presented. Clear communication and thorough preparation will also help ensure that cases are handled fairly and efficiently.
One justice I admire is Sandra Day O'Connor. As the first woman to serve on the United States Supreme Court, she approached cases with a strong respect for the rule of law and an understanding of the practical impact judicial decisions have on people’s lives. Her reputation for careful, balanced decision-making and respect for precedent reflects the qualities that are essential for judges at every level of the judiciary.
