Democratic Primary for Arkansas US Senate Race
The 100 citizens who make up the U.S. Senate are unique in that they are a relatively small group of leaders who wield considerable power in our government. The Senate, as part of the Legislative branch, is one of the three coequal branches, designed to ensure the separation of powers and to serve as a check on each other. Among their many powers, including confirming presidential appointments and trying impeachment cases from the House, I believe that the Senate's distinctive power lies in its requirement to approve any legislation or appropriations before they become law. I am running for the United States Senate to bring servant leadership, accountability, and a people-first vision to Washington.
I am a 34-year Army Veteran, retiring in 2015 as a Command Sergeant Major (E9). I returned home and formed a 501(c)(3) community organization to address the voids I saw in our community. I am currently serving my 2nd term as the mayor of Lewisville. I served as the ABMA chairman for the last three years, a leader among leaders. I am a member of the Arkansas Lions Club International, serving as District Governor in 2020-2021 and past president of the Stamps Rotary Club. I am an active member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and a 33° Mason. During my service, I went to school at night and on weekends. I earned my bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the UM. I hold a PhD in Interdisciplinary Leadership from the University of Central Arkansas.
Building bridges of cooperation. I am a man of faith, following a divinely rooted call to pursue compassion and equality in the context of living a faithful Christian life. My desire is to serve my fellow citizens as an extension of my faith. I feel that we need to change the heart and soul of our political process. Our democracy literally depends on how our elected leaders represent our shared lived experiences, respect our differences, and focus on the common interests of all constituents. We must return civility to our political discourse. I am passionate about finding and/or creating ways to find common ground that has not existed to bring people together. I am dedicated to combating the subservience of our current political leaders.
