I am qualified to serve as Tarrant County Commissioner Pct. 2 because I bring lived experience, strong education, and 25 years of leadership in cross-sector financial stability programs that deliver results. As the first Latina Vice Chair of the JPS Health Network Board of Managers, I advocated for expanded financial opportunity and healthcare access for uninsured and undocumented communities. I have overseen large public budgets and led workforce and housing initiatives across sectors.
JPS and MHMR must continue functioning as an integrated, accountable system in the jail. This starts with timely medical and mental health care, adequate staffing, and language access at intake. Commissioners Court must require transparent reporting from the Sheriff, JPS, and MHMR on outcomes, response times, and deaths. Care must continue after release through strong discharge planning and community handoffs, and diversion programs must be expanded so jails are not used as health care systems.
I would restore twice‑monthly Commissioners Court meetings and will propose holding some in the evenings so residents can attend after work, similar to counties that have begun scheduling evening sessions to increase public engagement. My office would share reminders and summaries in advance. I would also hold regular community meetings, accessible in person and online, with clear, plain‑language information.
I would meet county human resource needs by supporting a skilled, fairly paid, and accountable workforce. Responsible spending does not mean automatic cuts or contracting out, it means reviewing performance metrics for every program and contractor, including the courts and county jail. I would prioritize competitive wages, strong benefits, bilingual staff, and training so services are timely, effective, and delivered with dignity to working families, seniors, and veterans.
Protecting free and fair elections means expanding access while safeguarding integrity. In a county of over 2 million people, the current number of polling sites is unacceptable. As a former election worker, I saw strong community commitment but also equipment failures. We must invest in reliable equipment, trained equipment staff, more polling locations and investments in transportation for ride to the polls programs. Secure, lawful, and transparent elections build access and trust together.
The most pressing issues in Tarrant Co. are affordability, healthcare access, and basic infrastructure. County government must ease cost pressures through responsible spending that delivers results, protects homeowners, and improves access to essential services. Healthcare should be community-centered, preventive, and available before crisis, including better care in the county jail. I support smart investments in roads, flood control, and transportation to keep neighborhoods safe and connected.

Community Organizer
Born and raised in this community, my commitment is lifelong. For nearly two decades, I’ve served Tarrant County, from local community roles to serving as the Director of Community Outreach for Precinct 2. Running for Commissioner isn't about seeking a seat, it’s the next step in my life’s work of advocating for our families and residents. My deep roots in community organizing and local government give me the experience and passion to ensure our community is always seen, heard, and served.
Too many people in custody are being denied the care they need resulting in deaths and poor care. We have to bridge the gap between custody and care. I will fight to expand the presence of MHMR and JPS clinicians within the jail to ensure coverage, moving away from relying on detention officers for clinical observations. We also need to fully fund the Jail Diversion Center to treat individuals before they are booked. Being in the County Jail should not be a death sentence.
First, we need to go back to our twice-monthly meeting schedule to reverse the recent cuts to public speaking opportunities. Transparency demands proactive outreach. I’ll implement evening town halls and bilingual community briefings across Precinct 2 to reach working families. I will also move to make the registration process for public comment easier and more accessible, and move to make agendas include clear, plain-language summaries so residents can understand the issues before the Court.
We need a "Whole-Person" approach to address our needs. A good start would be integrating our many siloed services by expanding the Resource Connection model to ensure residents can access housing, food, and health services in one stop. I’ll also fight to restore full county oversight to the recently transitioned rent and utility assistance programs. This deserves direct accountability. With my experience in community outreach, I can bridge the gap between county resources and residents in need.
I will fight to reverse the recent, harmful cuts to polling locations. Voting has to be made accessible across all our communities, especially at college campuses and in high-growth neighborhoods. I believe protecting your vote means investing in clerk training and resources to assist every voter. We can keep our elections safe without making unnecessary barriers that target students or communities of color. Our job should be making it easier for people to vote, not harder.
The most pressing issues are public healthcare capacity and equitable infrastructure. Our population is exploding, but our facilities haven't kept pace, leaving residents long wait times and limited local access. We need expanded public health clinics to reach every corner of Precinct 2. At the same time, we have to modernize infrastructure, specifically the aging Mansfield Sub-Courthouse, to ensure that as our county grows, our essential services are accessible and efficient for everyone.
Occupation
Nonprofit Leader
I am a two-term Fort Worth City Councilmember with experience governing, managing budgets, and delivering results for residents. I have led efforts to raise wages, improve community safety, expand affordable housing and homeownership, and strengthen essential services. Professionally, I am a nonprofit leader with experience at the local, state, and federal levels addressing food insecurity, poverty, and community development. I am also a husband, father, assistant pastor, and seminarian.
Tarrant County must safeguard human dignity for our neighbors in our care. JPS and MHMRA should expand timely medical, mental health, and substance use treatment; improve staffing; and strengthen crisis intervention and diversion programs. We must advance bail reform so people are not jailed simply for facing poverty. The county must also invest upstream in good wages, affordable housing, childcare, public hospitals, homelessness prevention, and public transit to improve community safety.
I will ensure Commissioners Court is transparent and accessible by sharing clear agendas and materials in advance, expanding opportunities for in-person and virtual public comment, and communicating decisions in plain language. I will hold regular community meetings, report back on outcomes, and ensure residents’ voices meaningfully shape county policies, budgets, and priorities.
Based on my experience in local government and nonprofit leadership, I would ensure county human resource needs are met by investing in strong public services that support families and workers. This includes expanding access to healthcare, mental health services, food assistance, childcare, housing stability, workforce development, and reentry support. I will prioritize coordination, community partnerships, and data-driven investments so residents can access help efficiently and with dignity.
We must protect the right to vote while administering fair elections. This includes expanding access to voter registration, strengthening deputy voter registrar training and certification, expanding early voting and vote by mail for eligible voters, ensuring polling locations are accessible and well staffed, providing clear voter education, and protecting election workers from intimidation. Transparency, accurate audits, and nonpartisan election administration are essential to fair elections.
The most pressing issues facing Tarrant County are affordability, access to county services, and protecting fundamental rights. I am focused on lowering the cost of living through fair property tax appraisals, affordable housing and homeownership, childcare, and good wages. I will deliver excellent county services, including public hospitals, dignity in our jails, and better roads and transit, while protecting the right to vote.
