Contest United States House of Representatives, Arkansas District #2
A well-working Congress deliberates, regulates, and appropriates on behalf of the American public, striving to improve the quality of life of the American people. Representatives help their constituents secure the necessary resources and benefits, while also navigating the complexities of Federal agencies. Officeholders should serve to elevate the expressed needs of their constituencies by passing legislation that regulates, directs, or appropriates to those needs, as well as champion the preservation of the American Republic and its democratic institutions through dutiful diligence to uphold the Constitution. A Representative in Congress should be the District and the Nation's greatest Hype Person!
The House of Representatives is the People’s House and therefore should be comprised of members from all walks of life and backgrounds. My background is not special. I am a country kid with a big heart, bigger dreams, and a backbone to stand up for Democracy and a better life for working-class Arkansans and Americans. I am a former elementary math teacher who used the ladder of education to climb out of poverty and have committed my entire working life to ensuring that it exists for others to use to forge a better life. My bona fides include a bachelor’s in public policy leadership and political science, a master’s in public service, and my current enrollment in a Doctor of Education program. It time for something different.
There are two herculean areas of concern that we need to address first off, as a newly installed Congress. The first is to rebuff the assault on our democracy and preserve our government institutions from further dismantling. The second is to begin directing funding and federally backed programs to improve the quality of life of everyday Americans. We must ensure that healthcare becomes a fully paid public benefit, that women’s access to adequate and necessary healthcare is restored, and that academic freedom is protected and funded at levels that ensure an equitable education for all who seek it. A state like Arkansas should be leading the nation in food security, employment, wages, and quality of life not lagging in the background.
