Stoughton has achieved record growth 3 out of the last 4 years as measured by Net New Construction. We have several projects in the pipeline at various price points, including two WHEDA Section 42 Tax Credit projects and Habitat for Humanity homes. Our Housing Authority recently completed renovation of eighty-seven Section 8 Senior Living apartments, including $5.8m of Inflation Reduction Act funds for Sustainability improvements.
Stoughton participated in the Dane County Regional Housing Strategy. I am part of two implementation teams focusing on zoning reforms and public communication.
We balance the needs through collaboration with stakeholders proactively by communicating our communities priorities and values with developers. Our management team consisting of our Police, EMS/Fire Chief, Public Works, Utilities and Planning Directors, meets with the developer. We discuss the rules of engagement, roles, responsibilities, process, timelines and share links for zoning codes on fillable forms including; Park Design Guidelines and Land Suitability. If the area is in a Historic District, we include the Zoning Administrator.
The knowledge and experience I have gained in my years of service positions Stoughton to continue to move forward in a positive direction. We have recently built two corporate headquarters, Emmi-Roth and Stoughton Trailers. Eldon Homes, a local builder has established itself as a leader in Dane and surrounding counties. We have two national builders and several Dane County builders working on projects in Stoughton.
We will continue to implement and invest in our Sustainability Plan and make improvements in our parks, trails, roads, riverfront and Historic Main St. without referendums.
I have been the Mayor of Stoughton since 2018. Previously, I served fourteen years as a Stoughton Board of Education and City Council member, including City Council President.
As mayor, I have been instrumental in moving City Hall and expanding the Opera House, eliminating lead water pipes, expanding the Senior Center, upgrading and connecting parks and trails as well as promoting growth.
I have served on the board of Directors for the Stoughton Area Youth Center, The Mandt Center, Stoughton Area Chamber of Commerce, Innovation Center Stoughton and Executive Committee of Dane County Cities and Villages.
My wife Lori and I owned and operated Pizza Pit in Stoughton for nineteen years, before selling to our employees in 2022
